Ron Oden is the first African American and the first openly gay man to hold the office Mayor of Palm Springs, California. Born on March 21, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan, Oden attended Oakwood College (now University) in Huntsville, Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Arts in History, Sociology and Theology. Blatino Oasis created our "KINGS SUPPORTING KINGS Award For Outstanding Achievement" 6 years ago, in an effort to recognize and show support for gay or bisexual men of color, who make a difference in our communities. Men have been recognized in the fields of Politics, HIV/AIDS/Health Services, Literature, Film, and community organizing. Awards are now presented at our annual Kings Supporting Kings White Party Brunch.
